"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." - Pericles |
Hi ,
We are at
sea! I love this part of the voyage. Its 5:45 am all I hear is wake created by
our vessel in a rhythmic splashing of foamy salt water and a low static whisper
of the baby monitor we use to make sure the kids are OK across the hall.
The students
arrived and are excited. The program gets them involved right away creating
teams so groups of students get to know each other and work w/ each other all
the way through. They are broken down into Sea’s ; Baltic sea, yellow sea,
Black sea, Adriatic sea etc… Classes
start today as well as our dependent children program. Our coordinator is a
police officer from San Diego who is in his 30’s and seems like he is going to
give it his best. I’m sure we’ll be fine.
Yesterday we
started w/ a great breakfast out on the back deck . We then met up w/ a guy I
met named Juan Carlos who took us to some foothills to check out the Monkeys.
They would yell “MONKEY BAIN” at least it sounded like that J so we were shouting it in the jungle
as well. The white faced monkeys showed up and ate right out of our hands, and
yes the liked bananas the best.
We then
picked up a few cheap boogie boards and headed to the playa . As it happened a
mom who works on the ship was taking a walk w/ a couple of her girls at the
same time. Guess what the girls saw the potential for some fun w/ Capt Ron and
joined our crew. I just asked the Mom if they could swim (they are from Ohio)
and did they have sun block.
They waves
were more than enough, they sent my crew tumbling. Declan was great he would hang close
so I could help the girls catch the waves and bring them back when the current
moved them about 100 yds. down the beach In 5 minutes . Dec was playing on
driftwood which was all over the beach because of the rainy season . The water
tempeture was 86’ !!!
We are about
250 NM into our run to Callo Peru we should be there in a couple days . Very
cool.
Traci has
her 1st day in the clinic today but I bet I will actually be able to
see her more than the last couple days. She has already responded to a couple
sea sick patients, covered in hurl .
Later for
now

Johnnie, Great pictures. I love the monkey on Anna's head. Why am I not surprised my "Pied Piper" son collected some more children to create an even better adventure for them.Catching them before they went out to sea sounds like more of an adventure than that mother expected I am sure. I love your description of the early morning sounds. You are back to your wonderful expressive writing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time at sea. I am glad Traci will have a lttle time once the students are settled.
Hugs to all,Mom
Hi John, It sounds like you had a great day with the kids - my dad always had extra kids with us when we went anywhere with him. The pictures of the kids with the monkeys are adorable and of course Declan is the cutest little boy ever! I love your description the lapping of the waves and the quietness of early morning on the ship. Lastly I hope Traci doesn't having too many people with seasickness! Love, Lisa Pizza
ReplyDeleteAnna! Is that a monkey on your head! How fun!
ReplyDeleteDec -- love the picture of you on the drift wood with the ship in the background.
John -- your descriptions of the morning sounds are so impressive. What a way to start the day!
Glad you all have your sea legs and are off and running! Tell me more about the kids program!
Traci -- after dinner, deck 7, grape juice?!?!

Amy
